The Scouts (and their Dad’s) are going Whitewater rafting this weekend. I’m not sure who is looking forward to it more, I suspect it is the bigger boys. We’re going down the Ocoee, in Tennessee. It’s cold, really cold. But it will feel good, makes you feel alive unless you develop hypothermia!
We did it last year, and had a good time. I went down the small river with the younger boys, this year we get the full roundhouse, the Upper Ocoee! The big monster, class 4 & 5 rapids, and all the cold water you can gulp while holding your breath.
Good fun, lots of food (notice I didn’t say good food, it’s really not that bad), and not enough sleep.
We’ll probably have camp pitched by 11:00 pm tomorrow night, be on the river by 8:00-ish, and collapsed back in camp by 3:00 pm.
It’s good to be with my son like this, in a few years he’ll have a drivers license, discover girls, and Dad will be old business. That’s as it should be, if all goes well.
